Organise a move: prepare your request

To organise a move, give the company a clear picture of the items, access at departure and arrival, and the services you need. Both addresses matter as much as the inventory. Prepare these details before comparing quotes so that companies can explain their assumptions and what still needs checking on site.

Prepare the move step by step

  1. List furniture and boxes room by room, including the cellar, attic and balcony. Flag bulky, fragile or unusual items and give measurements where known.
  2. For each address, describe the floor, stairs, lift, narrow passages and distance between the entrance and a possible vehicle stopping point. Do not assume access has been reserved.
  3. Decide what you will pack and what the company should handle. Clarify dismantling, reassembly, protection, carrying and any temporary storage.
  4. Give your preferred date, flexibility, key handover arrangements and availability. Ask who will check stopping arrangements and any agreements needed.

Compare the proposed arrangements

Check the goods, journeys and services included in each offer. Ask what happens if the inventory, access or expected duration changes. Clarify transport terms, stated cover and the procedure for reporting damage, without assuming that all belongings are covered in the same way. Coordinate final cleaning separately if needed.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Forgetting items stored outside the main rooms.
  • Giving access details only for the departure address.
  • Adding a piece of furniture or another stop late without updating the arrangements and quote.

Documents to prepare

  • A dated inventory of the goods and useful photographs.
  • Access details and known passage measurements for both addresses.
  • Preferred timing, selected services and written confirmations received.

Prepare your project

Send an inventory that is as complete as possible and identify any measurements still needed. Arrange cleaning after the goods leave in agreement with the companies involved.
