What information should a kitchen request include?
For a kitchen request, describe the room, how you cook and the items you want to keep. A sketch with approximate measurements helps start the discussion; it does not replace the company’s final measurement checks. Say whether you need supply, installation or a project that also includes removal and related work.
Describe the kitchen before choosing cabinets
- Draw the room with its doors, windows and existing equipment. Mark visible water connections, sockets and ventilation without dismantling anything.
- Describe everyday use: how many people cook, storage needs, eating in the kitchen and tasks you want to make easier. For example, say if frequently used utensils should be within easy reach.
- List appliances to keep or replace, with known model references. Separate your material and colour preferences from decisions that are still open.
- Specify access, floor level, delivery arrangements and your preferred period. Ask for the layout and dimensions to be checked before placing project-related orders.
Clarify who handles each part
Ask for cabinets, worktop, appliances, delivery, assembly, removal and disposal to be identified separately. Clarify who handles connections, technical changes and making good walls or floors. If several companies are involved, agree on the order of work and who coordinates them. Also identify the items you will supply yourself.
Mistakes to avoid
- Treating approximate measurements as manufacturing dimensions.
- Assuming an existing appliance will fit without checking.
- Forgetting connection work or finishing around the new kitchen.
Documents to prepare
- A legible sketch and photographs of the room and access routes.
- Available model references or manuals for retained appliances.
- A list of storage needs, finishes and desired services, with options separated.
Prepare your project
Use this list to explain your project to a kitchen company. For an unusual layout, describe the constraints and intended use in a bespoke kitchen request.
